God’s Protection

Out of Egypt

Lesson Text: Exodus15:1-6, 19, 22-26

For a brief moment, the Israelites celebrated the victory of God, and everything looked good. Before too long, they had marched to something of a dead-end though, Migdol on one side, Pi-hahiroth on the other, and the Red Sea straight ahead. And on the horizon behind them, they could see dust clouds rising from oncoming chariots and the brutal-hearted Egyptian king and his army.

Thought to remember: God miraculously delivers, which should result in praise.

Lesson Learned: I must endure daily struggles and tests and continue to trust in God. I must remember God's past deliverance in my life. I must remember how He has proven Himself in my life and apply this faith in my current disposition.

My Prayer: Dear Father, we praise You for the many wonderful things You have already done for us. Help us to keep trusting through life experiences. Also, help us to remember your miraculous deliverance from past failures, as we acknowledge Your promises that You will never leave us. In Jesus' name, we pray. Amen!

Joseph Transmits Abraham’s Promise

Lesson Text: Genesis 50:15-26

In Genesis 50, the story of Joseph continues after the death of Israel (Jacob), and his brothers become fearful that Joseph will seek vengeance against them for their actions of selling him into slavery. Yet, this lesson unfolds Joseph's true character of faith and forgiveness.

Thought to Remember: God wants believers to treat others with respect even when they hurt you.

Lesson Learned: Joseph demonstrated perpetual faith in God and constant forgiveness to his brothers. Therefore, I realize that these two attributes are significant in my life. When I fail to forgive and explore the avenue of revenge, I tend to like faith that God can intervene in my personal affairs. I must understand that faith and forgiveness work together to unfold God's ultimate purpose in my life.

My Prayer: Dearest Heavenly Father, we pray that we will live lives of faith and forgiveness. Help us remain faithful in forgiving others even when we feel betrayed or hurt. Please give us the courage to stay faithful to our calling. In Jesus' name, we pray. Amen!

God Preserves a Remnant

Lesson Text: Genesis 45:3-15

Joseph demonstrates true forgiveness in this lesson while allowing God's providence to unfold in his life. Joseph acknowledges that God is always in control even when others have no knowledge of His divine plan. Remember, faithfulness brings us favor.

Thought to remember: God will always preserve His people.

Lesson Learned: Like Joseph, I must exercise forgiveness even when I cannot grasp the divine purpose for my current situation, but His Word reminds me that God has a divine plan for my life. Therefore, I must continue to trust because afterward, I will become like pure gold when He finishes.

My Prayer: Dearest Heavenly Father, You are a gracious and forgiving God, full of mercy and compassion. So we thank You for the good times in our lives. Help us to forgive our brothers and sisters. Allow us to render assistance in time of need like Joseph did for his family. In Jesus' name, we pray. Amen!

Joseph Finds Favor

Lesson Text: Genesis 41:37-52

Joseph did not run after fame. He did not bride his way to the top or manipulate his circumstances. Joseph relied on God. Even when he experiences a major setback, he continues to wait on God.

Thought to remember: God always works through men performing His tasks on Earth.

Lesson Learned: Joseph became an agent of revelation in a pagan culture. First, he was his father's favor, then he became a slave and was sentenced to prison. Finally, he was raised from his lowest point to the highest office next to Pharaoh. I, too, can become an agent of revelation despite my present situation if I trust God.

My Prayer: Dearest Heavenly Father, we trust that You will reward us in Your time and in Your way. Help us to do our very best in every responsibility we are given. In Jesus' name, we pray. Amen!

God Watches over Joseph

Lesson Text: Genesis 39:7-21

Though Joseph was wrongfully accused and his integrity tested by Potiphar's wife, he could rest assured that God was with him no matter the outcome.

Thought to remember: God desires our faithfulness to Him, especially in the area of sexual purity.

Lesson Learned: Joseph was not privy to God's plan. Yet God was using his situation as an important plan for the future of His people. So likewise, as a believer, I must trust God regarding my circumstances and refrain from leaning or depending on my own understanding. God is bigger than my understanding.

My Prayer: Dearest Heavenly Father, we ask you to help us to be faithful in obeying You, especially in the area of sexual temptation. In Jesus' name, we pray. Amen!
