Thessalonica, Berea, and Athens
Text: Acts 17:1-4,10-12,22-25, 28
God wants us to know HIM. And this is life eternal, that they should know thee the only true God, and him whom thou didst send, even Jesus Christ. (John 17:3).
At Mars Hill, philosophers debated beliefs, but they were never willing to commit to them. As believers, we are committed, and we must know Him to defend our beliefs.
Paul quotes Greek philosophers to connect with his audience, showing that even their own thinkers acknowledged humans’ dependence on a higher power. “Your own poets have said, For we are also his offspring.”
How powerful is a message when you can use someone else's literature to direct them to the Gospel? Here, Paul states that in HIM we live and move and have our being; therefore, God exists outside of time and space yet is closer to you than your breath. When we convey that God is the totality of all life and that we are HIS offspring, we become truly knowledgeable.
Then the Challenge is how knowledgeable you are of God?
